Q: How long have you been in business and what kind of work do you do?

A: Leon Volk founded Volk Drywall in 1960, Mark took over in the 80's and Shannon has continued the family company to this day.  The short answer is 66 years.  Since 1987 we have been a full service company with a significant emphasis on Smooth Wall (level 5) Custom Homes.  We have completed more custom homes than any other active drywall company located in Southern California!

 

Q: How good is your work?

A: Our quality is “Top Notch.”  Our employees are highly trained and no one does finer work!  Working primarily on high end Custom Homes day in and day out we know what it takes to do the job right.  Nothing is too hard for us and anything you may need is probably something we have already done before.

 

Q: Are you very expensive?

A: By being in business for as long as we have, we have built strong relationships with our employees.  Some have been with us for over thirty years!  That’s longer than most companies have even been in business!  Our people know Custom Homes, that’s what we do, we do a lot of them and we believe that we do them better!  Find out for yourself what our customers already know…..best quality, best service, and best in the business!

 

Q: How long does it take to complete a Custom Home?

A: About 3 to 4 weeks depending on several factors which include weather conditions, drying conditions and complexity of the project.

 

Q: Why is your proposal sometimes less than the price quoted by the guy I used before?

A: Sometimes new customers come to us wanting an explanation as to why “their guy” that they have used in the past is so much more expensive than us.  The answer is usually threefold:

• First, we have standardized our pricing which translates into a consistent bid price even if the work is more complex than the average project.

• Second, we have a great relationship with some of the nation’s largest supply companies. This provides us with a competitive advantage including deep supply resources, greater service and better pricing which allows us to provide the best finished product at the best price possible.

• Third, and most importantly, “their guy” may be overcharging them.  Some drywall contractors begin to feel secure after working for their customer for a length of time.  They sometimes feel that they should be paid more money because they are “so good” or have given their customer “such good service in the past.”  We don’t work like that.  We give ALL our customers the same consistent pricing job after job and never, never cut back on quality or service!

 

Q: Do you do steel stud framing?

A: Yes. Mostly light gage steel stud framing.  Over the years we have completed dozens of projects ranging from small tenant improvements to many of the well known chain stores including Arco, Chevron, Ethan Allen, Starbucks, Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald’s, Wienerschnizel, Taco Bell, Home Base, Home Depot, Sam’s Club and Best Buy.

 

Q: Have you ever been in the news or have any articles been written about your company?

A: Yes. Walls & Ceilings, the most widely circulated drywall trade magazine, recognizes us as one of the premier custom home drywall companies in the country.  We have had several articles written about us over the years and have been featured on the cover as well.  Also, they come to us at times with questions ranging from our perspective on the economy to “the right way to finish drywall.” We have two of the articles posted under "The Press" section of the website.

 

Q: Why should I choose your company to drywall my Custom Home?

A: Because we know what we are doing.  We don’t pretend to know how to drywall Custom Homes, we know how!  This has been our business for 66 years!  We are very proud of the fact that we have been in business for more than three decades doing just that....Custom Homes. 

While many other companies will try to hide the fact that they are new to the business or boast that they have “X” amount of “combined years” of experience, don’t be fooled by that.  Check their license with the Contractors State License Board’s website (CSLB) and find out for sure when they first received their license.  Ours were issued in 1960, 1987 and 2026.
